First day of the visit of the Ambassador of Belarus to Sri Lanka

On February 1-4, 2023, the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of India, the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Nepal, Andrei Rzheussky, is on a visit to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

On February 1, there was a meeting with the Member of the Sri Lankan Parliament, Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform Hon. Mr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, as well as with the Additional Commissioner General of Prisons Mr. Chandana Ekanayake.

The Sides confirmed their readiness to expand cooperation in the field of providing legal assistance to citizens on the territory of Belarus and Sri Lanka, develop and update the relevant legal framework.

Issues of development of parliamentary relations, including the resumption of the friendship group with the Republic of Belarus in the Sri Lankan Parliament, were discussed.

After meetings at the Ministry of Justice of Sri Lanka, with the assistance of the Minister W.Rajapakshe, the Ambassador of Belarus visited the «Welikada Female Prison». There was a conversation with the prison administration and imprisoned Belarusian citizens on the issues of their stay in the penitentiary institution. Prisoners were given essential goods.

The expansion of trade and economic cooperation was discussed at the meeting with representatives of the Sri Lankan business at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The Embassy of Belarus in India presented the export potential of the Republic of Belarus, its investment climate and opportunities for creating joint projects in Belarus.

An interactive session between the Ambassador of Belarus A.Rzheussky and Sri Lankan businessmen was held, during which the Sri Lankan business showed interest in Belarusian agricultural and road construction machinery, food, chemical, pharmaceutical industry products as well as the metallurgical complex of Belarus. The Sri Lankan business representatives expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the field of tourism.

More than 30 representatives of large, medium and small businesses in Sri Lanka attended the meeting.

As part of business negotiations, a presentation of the products of the confectionery industry of the «Belgospischeprom» concern took place at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
