The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus M. Kasko took part in the presentation of the first Belavia flight from Minsk to Mattala
29.10.2025On October 29, 2025, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus M. Kasko took part in the presentation of Belavia's first flight from Minsk to Mattala. In addition to the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission, the event was attended by V. Barkun, Deputy Director General of Belavia, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sri Lankan aviation authorities and heads of the country's travel agencies and services.
In his welcoming speech, the Head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission noted the growth in passenger traffic between Belarus and Sri Lanka in recent years. He attributed this growth not only to Belarusian citizens' interest in the island nation's tourism potential, but also to the significant number of Sri Lankan students studying at Belarusian universities. Today, virtually every fifth Sri Lankan doctor received his medical education in Belarus. Therefore, the launch of today's flight is a logical step in developing and strengthening cooperation between Minsk and Colombo.
The Belarusian Ambassador expressed special gratitude to his partners at Belavia and the Sri Lankan aviation authorities for their professionalism and diligence in launching direct air service between Belarus and Sri Lanka.
Also present at the event was Dr. Pathmanathan Sathiyalingam, Secretary of the Friendship Group with Belarus, established on October 9, 2025, in the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Incidentally, he is also a graduate of Vitebsk State Medical University. In his speech, the Sri Lankan parliamentarian called the opening of the flight between Belarus and Sri Lanka a connecting bridge between our countries, a symbol of cooperation in today's world. He stated that this event will help expand and deepen cooperation in tourism, trade, and education between Minsk and Colombo.
