On the participation of First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergey Lukashevich in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Council in India
15.05.2026First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergey Lukashevich took part in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held on May 14–15, 2026, in New Delhi.
In his remarks during the session, Sergey Lukashevich pointed to the growing gap between existing global governance institutions and the rapidly changing realities of the modern world. He expressed confidence that BRICS member states and partners could become a strong unified voice in advancing the reforms needed to address these challenges.
He also called for the adoption of a document enshrining the principles of multipolarity, sovereign equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and equal and indivisible security in international relations. In this context, he referred to the joint Belarusian-Russian initiative to develop a Eurasian Charter on Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century.
Highlighting the disruptive impact of unlawful unilateral coercive measures and protectionism on the global trading system, Sergey Lukashevich reaffirmed Belarus’s readiness to participate in the development of new independent cross-border payment mechanisms. In this regard, he also noted Belarus’s intention to join the New Development Bank.
On the sidelines of the event, Sergey Lukashevich held meetings with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Union Minister of State for Ministry of Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada, as well as the heads of the Vietnamese and Saudi delegations. The parties discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda.
