20.04.2022

On April 19-20, 2022, a Festival of Belarusian films, dedicated to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and India, was held in India. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Belarus in India in association with the International Chamber of Media and Entertainment, the film studio «Marwah Studios» and the Asian Film and Television Academy.

The guests of honour at the opening ceremony of the film festival were Ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps of New Delhi, representatives of the film industry and Indian media.

In his welcoming speech, Ambassador of Belarus Andrei Rzheussky noted that Belarus and India have been in touch for a long time, even before the formal diplomatic ties were established in 1992. And throughout these years people-to-people contacts have been the backbone of our friendship.  Bollywood films, traditional Indian cuisine, Yoga and Ayurveda practices are very popular in Belarus. At the same time we are witnessing increased interest among the Indian students to study in Belarusian universities, as well as to travel to Belarus. «These friendships and professional partnerships always contribute to closer engagement between the countries».

Within the framework of the festival, the audience was shown a documentary movie «Heritage» and feature films of Belarusian cinematographers «Tum-Babi-Dum», «Traces on the water» and «Gamer’s rules».

All Belarusian films made a strong impression on the audience and were highly appreciated by guests of the ceremony.

As a result of the event, the President of the International Chamber of Media and Entertainment of India S.Marwah noted the deep interest of the Indian audience in Belarusian cinematography.

In this regard, an agreement was reached to hold a number of other events aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of the film industry, as well as expanding cultural exchange between our countries.

At the end of the event Ambassador of Belarus Andrei Rzheussky gave an interview to the Indian English-language TV channel «Marwah Studio Television», in which he marked the prospects for further deepening cultural cooperation.
