Political Relations between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh were established on February 21, 1992.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of India H.E. Mr.Andrei Rzheussky presented the credentials to President of Bangladesh H.E. Mr.Abdul Hamid on June 27, 2019.

In May 2012, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh visited the Republic of Belarus.

On November 11-13, 2012, a delegation headed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus visited Dhaka.

On 8-11 July 2013, Prime Minister of Bangladesh H.E. Mrs.Sheikh Hasina paid a return visit to the Republic of Belarus.

In September 2014, on the sidelines of the UN Summit on Climate Change, a meeting between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh was held.

In 2015, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus visited Dhaka to participate in the first meeting of the Joint Belarus-Bangladesh Commission on Cooperation in Science and Technology.

In 2015, several key ministers of Bangladesh, including Minister of Industry, Minister of Science and Technology, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives visited the Republic of Belarus.

In April 2016, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus H.E. Mr.V.V. Makei met with State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh H.E. Mr.M.Sh.Alam in Beijing on the sidelines of the 5th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of member and observer countries of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.

In April 2017, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh H.E. Mr.M.Sh.Alam accompanied by Bangladeshi businessmen paid a visit to Belarus.

 

 

In September 2016, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh H.E. Mr.S.K. Sinha visited Minsk.

A Working Group on Cooperation with Parliaments of Asian States, including the People's Republic of Bangladesh, was formed at the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the seventh convocation.

In April 2017, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for International Affairs and National Security participated in the 136th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Dhaka.

In April 2017, the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus visited Bangladesh.

In April 2019, the Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of Bangladesh visited the Republic of Belarus to participate in the first meeting of the Joint Belarusian-Bangladeshi Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

During the accreditation visit of Ambassador of Belarus H.E. Mr.A.Rzheussky to Dhaka in June 2019, meetings with the President of Bangladesh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Commerce  Cochairman of the Belarus-Bangladesh Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives were held.

There is a functioning mechanism for consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Bangladesh.

In November 2000, the first inter-ministerial consultations at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers were held in Minsk.

The fourth round of political consultations was held in Dhaka on December 11, 2019.

Bangladesh and Belarus have similar positions on key issues of the international agenda, oppose the creation of a unipolar world, and provide mutual support in elections to international organizations. Both states condemn the politicization of human rights issues within the UN and the practice of adopting country-specific resolutions.

In November 2012, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Cities of Minsk and Dhaka on the Establishment of Friendly Relations was signed.
