Evening of Belarusian poetry held in India

On November 10, 2017 as part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and India, the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing and the 135th birthday anniversary of  Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi an evening of Belarusian poetry was held. The event was attended by students and staff of the Russian Studies Centre at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Slavonic studies departments of a number of Indian universities, representatives of the public, Embassy employees and members of their families.

The participants of the poetry evening recited the verses and poems of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas in the Belarusian language, sang a song to the words of Yakub Kolas “Viasna” (O Spring).

During the event the books of Belarusian authors, as well as publications dedicated to Belarusian art and translated collections of Belarusian poems were donated to the library of the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Together with the event in the hall of the Convention Centre of Jawaharlal Nehru University a photo exhibition on the history of the Belarusian-Indian friendship was opened. The materials of the exhibition were prepared with the support of the Belarusian State Archive of Cine and Photo Documents and reflect the diversity of forms of Belarusian-Indian cooperation from the very first years of India's independence until modern times.
