Consular legalisation (attestation)

The legalization of an official document can be performed in the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of India and in the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Mumbai.

The Embassy of Belarus in India attests official documents, issued on the territory of India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, provided these documents have been priorly attested by the foreign ministries of these countries.

The Consulate General of Belarus in Mumbai attests only the documents, issued on the territory of India regardless of the issuance region. Before attestation in the Consulate General all documents are required to be attested by the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

Official documents, issued on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, can be attested both by the Embassy of Belarus in India and the Consulate General of Belarus in Mumbai, provided they were priorly attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus. In case the documents are planned to be submitted to the official authorities of Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, after attestation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus they can be attested only by the Embassy of Belarus India.

Official documents, submitted for attestation both to the Embassy of Belarus in India and the Consulate General of Belarus in Mumbai, are usually attested within 1 business day

The fee is 35 euro per document (in Indian Rupees)

Apostile

The documents issued by the government agencies of the countries that have signed the Hague Convention abolishing the requirement of the legalization of foreign official documents of 5 October 1961 are valid on the territory of the other participant of the Convention without consular legalization provided that they have the apostille.

India is the participant of the above mentioned Convention. Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri-Lanka — are not.

The document that was issued by the competent authority of Belarus and does not have the apostille that was stamped in Belarus can be submitted to the Embassy of Belarus in India or Consulate General of Belarus in Mumbai for the further stamp of the apostille. In this case the document is sent by the Embassy or the Consulate General and then backwards through the diplomatic channels. The process might take upto 6 months.
